I won’t talk too much about the games this week because I’ve seen next to nothing of the game between the Avengers and Tomahawks . All I know is that with their victory, the Tomahawks are now in first place and there are no more than two points separating the first and last place , which tells me that the «league commissioner» must be pleased to see such parity installed finally... The downside of the week: the two games were each marked by concussions , one for Andrew of the " Toms " and the other for Thomas of Czeckers ...(pure accidents by the way)…I hope they recover quickly without too much damage ...
In any case, next week will be exiting , each team fighting for two more points in the standings either to consolidate or improve its position ... ( Everybody always wants to win for sure , but this makes it sound more serious !)
A side note this week on the "regulations and refereeing" side of things… After having a discussion with the referee, a member of the Discipline Committee was informed that it was possible to do a bit of " legal hooking " as long as it done "below the gloves " ... I think this means " around the hip area" or the «pants portion» if you prefer ... Ahh! it smells like the good «old school hockey» of the seventies and eighties as we (the older guys) learned to play it !But obviously, don’t exaggerate , the referee is there to check us !
By the way, I felt the atmosphere was very positive this week, everyone seemed happy and smiling , the LFA is definitely becoming «a big family» as it was intended right from the start...
We want it to be an "inclusive" league, giving a chance to «weaker» guys to share the ice with others that played at higher levels... I’m happy to see there are some very talented guys that are very happy to play with us, goalies as well as players.
I’ve always liked to see a "less agile" player that gives it all he’s got, playing alongside a «top gun» that gives him his chance by serving him a pass whenever possible ! This is yet another of the aspects that make the LFA the true continuation of the Hockey Brotherhood ! True sportsmanship at it’s best ! The common denominator being the love of this wonderful sport we have the chance to practice week after week ...
This brings to mind the performance and attitude of Carl the sub goalie who plays «en tabarnak» , and proved to be one of the key factors in our victory yesterday, along with Julien who scored a hat trick ... These two are good examples of guys of great talent (to name but a few) that stay truly humble while helping to raise the level of play for the benefit of all in the end !
After all, we're here to have fun See you next week !
