HOCKEY TATTOOED ALL OVER

the first edition of the LFA RUSH tournament

Last Saturday was the first tournament in the history of the LFA. Certainly, in the last five years, we have put together several championship games and events like the first Winter Classic in the city’s history,  but never a tournament. As a reminder of our humble beginning as a 4 team league, again four teams faced each other in the 3-on-3 LFA RUSH, located at Excellent Ice in Kirkland. For those who do not know the place, it is composed of three reduced ice surfaces that allow another approach to the game. We had a real passionate group of guys for this premiere day, which gave way to exciting, relentless games with several spectacular plays and saves. Although each team wanted to get their hands on our new trophy created exclusively for the tournament, a festive and brotherly atmosphere prevailed throughout the event. The guideline during the draft was to shuffle the cards so that everyone could play with guys who usually play in another team. That's why the 7 members of each team (as we played 3-on-3) often came from seven different teams. One referee and a few substitute players joined the pioneers of this new hockey program that the league is offering its members. All in all, the event was a success and the league will do it again during the year.

the beast

Congratulations to the Beast composed of Alexandre Boutet, Philippe-Michel Lang, Jonathan Mutch, Pierre-Luc Aspirot, Serge Labbe, Tony Manocchio & Nicko Reviakin for winning the first edition of the tournament and to be the first to write their names on the LFA RUSH cup. Their championship game against the Barracudas, composed of Guy Ritchot, Pierre-Luc Beauchamp, Donald Turcotte, Daniel Harbridge, Patrick Blais, Stephane Mackenzie and Alexandre Girard (who replaced Raymond Riffon-Delorme on the morning of the tournament) was an anthology game that was decided by a goal by Pierre-Luc Aspirot during a penalty shot with just over a minute to play. To close the evening off, more than 20 of the 28 participants gathered at the bar of the arena for a very cool post game get together giving place to new meeting between members of the league. Which always makes our subsequent meetings at the arena more fun!

TRY A CHANGE OF SCENERY AND PLAY IN THE OTHER DIVISION

Since the beginning of the season, some members of the Central Division have replaced in the Satellite Division, which has also seen some of its members venture into the Central. However, these hockey mercenaries have been the same dudes week after week. The league administration would find it cool if more and more players changed scenery and went to replace in the other division, to live another experience and to build bonds with guys who share the same passion as them. The invitation is for you to take!

IN THE LFA WE RECYCLE!!!

The dean of discipline and myself are surprised and saddened by the lack of awareness of some of our members because week after week we find empty cans in the garbage when a recycling box is available to you in between the locker rooms. Note that this is not for the money, as the cans are given to disadvantaged people, but more for the principle of being eco-responsible and making a minimum of effort to help the planet as well as poor people. You can also bring back your empty bottles of Gatorade, soap or shampoo because they do not recycle in the trash and do not add weight to your bag. You will be able to recycle them at home as our boxes are for cans only. Think about it and do the right thing.
