THE ENGLISH LFA NEWS CLOSING AFTER 5 YEARS OF SERVING THE COMMUNITY

It is with great regret that the LFA administration has to close down the LFA English news after 5 years of operation. It is no longer possible for us to translate the news every week of what is going on in the league and the community. Without a direct sponsorship of this section of our site to keep it alive, we no longer have the capacity to invest the time and the efforts needed to keep it running.
You can always find out what is going on in the LFA in the Journal LFA on the French side of this site. You can practice your French or use Google translate if needed.

We hope one day to be able to resume our English news department but until that day comes, vous devrez pratiquer votre français to keep up with what is going on in Montreal’s premier adult hockey league

All the best

ON THE THRESHOLD OF THE BIG GAME

ON THE THRESHOLD OF THE BIG GAME

Before crossing the doors of the Collège Notre-Dame arena Friday, the two teams taking part in the 2018 Grand Finale of the LFA will have had to overcome adversity to take a shot at the big prize. Both of them having given-up 3 goals in the third period of the semi-final game to force an overtime period. In front of the Tsunami of the opposition they were able to find the strength to get the big W in overtime which was the first time semi-final games were decided this way.

THE WEEK-END OF NO RETURN

THE WEEK-END OF NO RETURN

We arrive at the weekend of no return, the matches that will determine who will take part in the big dance, the party, the master game! Many months, injuries and games have passed since September and it is this weekend that everyone must put their cards on the table and give the best of what they have to offer if they want to play in our Grand Finale.

DEFEAT HAS ONLY THE IMPORTANCE YOU GIVE IT

DEFEAT HAS ONLY THE IMPORTANCE YOU GIVE IT

Last Saturday, while two teams secured their participation in the next round of the playoffs, the semi-finals that will take place on April 28, others saw their season go up in smoke and this especially in the room of the Shamrocks for reasons that I let you guess. With another weekend in front of us where the eight teams will face each other, the defeats of the last weeks for some teams have only the importance that they want to give them because in the end we meet every Saturday basically to play and disconnect from our daily lives. It is clear that many guys are motivated by the competitive aspect of hockey wanting to win the championship to put their hands and their name on the cup but there are other things that matter even more if we look at the "big picture" as the king said. I admit, it sucks to lose and you can be down for a while but imagine you spend 7 to 9 months with a team of boring guys with whom you share nothing as well as not to being successful on the ice. Luckily this season, despite a lot of injuries and absences, the teams have remained competitive and the final ranking clearly demonstrates that.

ONE WIN DOES NOT MAKE YOU A CHAMPION

ONE WIN DOES NOT MAKE YOU A CHAMPION

A title that is a bit hard I guess, but we must keep both feet on the ground despite the euphoric feeling that victory provides to start the playoffs by keeping an eye on the goal to reach. On the other hand, you have to chase the heaviness of the defeat and collectively raise the team game to come out stronger next time. Each team is beatable and they can all win so notice to those who put the cart in front of the horses. The champions of this world have not all started their way as first of class or the opposite in the corner of it.

THE WHITE PAGE BEFORE THE GREAT UNCERTAIN

THE WHITE PAGE BEFORE THE GREAT UNCERTAIN

Do not be afraid, the source of inspiration for the topics covered by our newspaper is eternal and this title rather invokes your blank page because the story is yours. After seven months of rehearsals, reflections and adjustments, you will start this weekend the path to the LFA Cup. Some of you in the past have had the privilege to lift it at arm's length while living a game experience the like of professional circuits. With a long warm-up period, 20-minute fixed-time periods, the zamboni between it and a crowd to cheer you on, putting even more ambience in the amphitheater while supporting the community through a fundraiser , our championship games, for those who live them, mark the time. Now you have to write the first chapter of this adventure that is the playoffs, where anything can happen.

A WEEK AS EQUALS

A WEEK AS EQUALS

Hi boys & girls

I include the ladies this week in my usual hey ho!!  As they seem determined more than ever with good reasons to change things in our societies since the advent of the #Metoo movement, #moiaussi and the especially contemptuous #balancetonporc that says a lot about some radical feminists. I have been silent on this topic since it started preferring to let the wave pass as my idea about the derivation of the feminist movement and the place of man in our western societies is already made after years of studying the phenomena.

BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

With the changes under way in La Ligue Fédérale des As after five years of operation and trial and error, the league’s administration wants to continue its reflection before applying the next milestones that will determine the direction to take. To do this, in continuum with an approach begun a few years ago through various polls and unlike last year where the CEO of the league met individually with each regular member of the association, we would like the members of the 2017-2018 edition of the LFA to fill out a short questionnaire to help us make the right decisions.

THE LFA PLAYS ON THE ROAD

THE LFA PLAYS ON THE ROAD

For the past few seasons, Notre-Dame College's hockey program has been using more and more ice time on weekends, and the result has seen the LFA season schedule cut by a few weekends. For the first time ever the league recently set up a 3-on-3 tournament to deal with this situation and on Saturday we will play our first winter regular season game away from home by moving the show to the Pierrefonds Sportplexe with 3 of our games played on the olympique size ice surface. To welcome us, the Sportplexe administration will graciously offer each team a 2 for 1 deal on beer pitchers after the game at the bar which will surely be appreciated by our members.
